Clarkson University was founded in 1896 as a memorial to Thomas S. Clarkson (1837-1894) by his sisters, Elizabeth, Frederica, and Lavinia. Originally coeducational, the school was all male from 1907 to 1964. In 1984, Clarkson College of Technology became Clarkson University.
