Henry Charles Sutherland (1804-1855) arrived in Western Australia at the "Parmelia" in 1829. Surveyor; Collector of Revenue and Treasury Clerk; Colonial Treasurer; MLC. Owned land at Crawley (site of UWA). His son, Robert Morgan Sutherland (1833-1897) was a civil servant (in Colonial Secretary's Office, Police Dept., Customs Dept.); postmaster at Greenough (1859-1966); agent, then manager, of the National Bank in Fremantle; Captain of Fremantle Volunteer Force. Sold Crawley Park to Shenton in 1875. Robert's son, Robert Henry Douglas Sutherland (1878-1962) was a clerk at Treasury. Resigned in 1907 to work at Marble Bar. Appointed Clerk of Court in Port Hedland (1908). Member of Children's Court (1937-1945).
