Arthur Foster, "lawyer and president State bank, was born about 1794 in Columbia County, Ga., and died about 1851 in Tuscaloosa: son of John and Elizabeth (Savidge) Foster: brother of Hardy Foster. He was educated and trained in the law and became noted by his published digest of the laws of Georgia in whose senate he served several terms before he removed to Tuscaloosa County. After locating there he was elected president of the State bank which was in process of liquidation but required a legally trained officer.
