Fofonoff, Nicholas P., 1929-
Nicholas Fofonoff was a physical oceanographer interested in the dynamics of ocean circulation, physical properties and thermodynamics of sea water, and the development of mooring technology and reliable current measurement. He was active in the management of WHOI's Buoy Group. Fofonoff was involved in MODE, POLYMODE, WOCE and IWEX, all international scientific projects. Later research focused on the Gulf Stream.
