St. Peter's Episcopal Church (Charleston, S.C.)
Variant namesSt. Peter's Episcopal Church (Charleston, S.C.) was incorporated in Dec. 1833 and the church on Logan St. was consecrated in Dec. 1835. By 1841 its congregation consisted of 132 white families and forty-five colored families. In the summer of 1844 it opened a day school for African-American children, and in 1859 it organized "St. Peter's Colored Sunday School." The church was destroyed by fire in Dec. 1861 and its brick walls were dismantled and sold in the late 1860s. The congregation reorganized in 1927, and in 1930 they merged with Christ Episcopal Church on Rutledge Ave., in Charleston, to form a new St. Peter's Church at that site.
