Schwartz, Joseph, 1938-

Joseph Schwartz was born in 1938 in New York City. Both of his parents were political activists. The family moved to California in 1946 and Schwartz graduated from University of California at Berkeley with a Ph. D. in physics in 1964. He participated in civil rights activities in Hattiesburg from September 1964 to March 1965. He taught in the CUNY system until he moved to London in 1975.

Dr. Joseph S. Schwartz was a civil rights volunteer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, from September 1964 to March 1965. He assited with voter registration, community centers, and the Freedom library. He also worked with the White Folks Project (WFP) to facilitate discussions about racism among Hattiesburg's poor white communities.

Color photography developed rapidly after World War II, both as color positive (slides) and color negatives (prints). In accelerated aging tests, published in 2000, color positive photographs were found to retain color accuracy indefinitely, provided they were stored with adequate environment controls and were not projected or exposed to light. Color negative photographs, on the other hand, were found to lose color accuracy by fading or color alteration fairly rapidly. At that time Fujicolor was found to be the most stable of the color negative brands. Kodacolor had poor color retention. Polaroid color prints were probably the least color stable. Improvements over the past ten years make most brands about equal in quality today.
