American artist, who, after being commissioned by the California philanthropist Mrs. Phoebe Hearst to paint Plains Indians and scenes of Indian life, lived with his wife Addie Byram Sharp from 1902 to 1910 at Crow Agency, Montana, and travelled and painted throughout the West.
