Charles Dilly was apprenticed to his brother Edward Dilly (1732-1779) as a bookseller in 1756 and joined the firm in 1764 and worked jointly with Edward until his death in 1779. Charles continued in the trade until he sold the firm to Joseph Mawman in 1800.
