Springfield, Illinois, collector of rare books and manuscripts, and an authority on Abraham Lincoln.

U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Hostick was also a former journalist. He became interested in manuscript collecting as an employee of Illinois Governor Henry Horner during the 1930s, whom Hostick helped collect a formidable collection of Lincolniana which later became the basis of the Illinois State Historical Library's Lincoln Collection. Hostick served as an officer of the Illinois State Historical Society from 1960 to 1973, and also as director of the Abraham Lincoln Association. Unmarried, he was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
