Family of Capt. Thomas Ellison, landowner, militia officer, merchant, and early settler of New Windsor, Orange County, New York. The Ellison family owned a gristmill in New Windsor and traded heavily in flour and wheat with associates in New York City and abroad. Ellison's son, Thomas Ellison, Jr., eventually relocated to New York City where he carried on the family business in connection with his father and two brothers, John and William.
