Verplanck, William G. 1861-1931.

William G. Verplanck (1861-1931) was an amateur genealogist who conducted research along with his wife Harriet. The son of Samuel Hopkins and Mary Grandin Vought Verplanck, he was a lawyer as well as a director of the Fulton Trust Company, the New York Casualty Insurance Company and the Bristol Myers Company. An active member of many genealogical societies, Verplanck belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution, the Sons of the Colonial Lords of the Manor, the St. Nicholas Society, Holland Society and the Society of the Colonial Wars.

The Verplanck family has a notable history in New York. Between 1633 and 1638, a Dutch entrepreneur named Abraham Isaac Verplanck arrived in New Netherlands Colony (now New York and New Jersey) from Holland. In later years, the Verplancks participated in the development of the business and banking industry in New York City and were among the Trustees of Kings College, now Columbia University.
