The Singing Lions originated in 1980 as an accredited course in the College of Art and Architecture, called the "Penn State Pop Choir." In 1999, the group's affiliation with the College of Art and Architecture was dropped and the Singing Lions became a student-run organization. The group's choreographed repertoire features music arranged for mixed voices in Broadway, jazz, and pop styles.
