Annville Institute was established by the New York based Womens' Board of Domestic Missions of the Reformed Church of America (RCA). In 1900 RCA missionaries chose Mckee as the site for their first Kentucky mission project. Mckee Academy eventually became a county run high school, and the church established Annville Institute some miles further west. In addition to basic academics, the Annvile school focused heavily on vocational training included agriculture, plumbing, auto mechanics, mechanical drawing, sheet-metal work, electrical plant operation, weaving, cooking, sewing, canning, and home nursing. Restricted funding during the Depression years, and later advancements in public school and transportation systems eventually led to Annville becoming less the singular opportunity that it had once been. The school program finally closed in 1978 but a small staff continued using the facilities for a variety of community service and church related programs into the 1980s.
