EUNICE HALE (WAITE) COBB, 1803-1880

Eunice Hale (Waite) Cobb was born on January 27, 1803, in Manchester, N.H. In 1822 she married a Universalist minister, Sylvanus Cobb, and participated in his preaching missions throughout New England and at his pastorates in Waterville, Maine, and Malden and East Boston, Mass. EHC was one of the founding members of the Ladies' Physiological Institute, an organization devoted to the study of the human body. She was president for twelve years and secretary for fifteen. The Cobbs had nine children. EHC died in 1880. There are additional EHC diaries at the Boston Public Library, and a collection of Cobb family papers at the Miller Library, Colby College, Waterville, Maine.
