Peter Hanger came to Arkansas in 1834 and moved to Little Rock in 1848. He had several business interests, among them, a government contract to carry mail by stage throughout Arkansas. Hanger married Matilda Cunningham, the daughter of Dr. Matthew Cunningham, Little Rock's first mayor and one of the town's earliest physicians. One of their children was well-known Little Rock businessman, Frederick Hanger, the husband of Frances Marion Harrow Hanger. Frederick and Frances had two children, Kenneth and Albert. The family home at 1010 Scott Street in Little Rock is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
