Patarasp Rustomji Sethna was born in Bombay, India. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Bombay and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan. Dr. Sethna worked for Bendix Aviation (Detroit, Michigan) for three years and received a patent on an automobile suspension system he developed. In 1956, Dr. Sethna joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota's Institute of Technology as an associate professor. He became head of the Aerospace, Engineering and Mechanics department in 1966. Dr. Sethna retired from the University in June 1993 as professor emeritus. Patarasp Sethna died on 4 November 1993.
