Richard Maibaum (1909-1991), screenwriter and producer of films such as THE GREAT GATSBY (1949) and most of the James Bond thrillers was an established stage actor, producer and playwright before beginning his Hollywood career in the 1930s.

During World War II he directed the Army's Combat Film Division. After the war he was a producer and screenwriter for Paramount. Beginning in the 1950s, he worked in film and television primarily in England.
