Concord Free Trade Club (Concord, Mass.)
Club formed in Concord, Mass., Dec., 1884, to (in the words of its constitution) "aid all movements that have for their end the establishment of the principle of free trade as governing legislation; by free trade understanding the reverse of protection ..." and to discuss and promote reform of the existing tariff. The club was governed by officers and an Executive Committee. Regular and annual meetings were held; members paid dues. Members included John H. Moore, Julius M. Smith, John F. Hosmer, John Q.A. Griffin, Sherman Hoar, Frederic May Holland, Harvey Wheeler, Woodward Hudson.
(Cont.) Stedman Buttrick, Prescott Keyes, James S. Bush, Augustus P. Chamberlaine, and Frank A. Nichols. The Club brought in speakers from outside Concord, among them Professor William G. Sumner of Yale. It appears to have become inactive by the end of 1888.
