R. C. Coffin was a geologist who worked as the Assistant State Geologist of Colorado and taught for the Geological Department of the University of Colorado. Upon his retirement he served as a consulting geologist for the Stanolind Oil and Gas Company and then later for the Atomic Energy Commission working with geological and geophysical groups in search of uranium ore. His endeavors emcompassed many minerals in addition to petroleum, and he was continually in search of new methods and means of improving those in use.
