Lucy Engel (Graves) Taliaferro was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 25, 1895. She graduated from Goucher College (A.B., 1917), and Johns Hopkins University (Sc.D., 1925).

Lucy Graves Taliaferro married William Hay Taliaferro on June 6, 1919. William Taliaferro became Professor of Parasitology in 1924. Lucy Taliaferro worked in the Parisitology laboratory at the University of Chicago as a volunteer assistant. She achieved the rank of Assistant Professor (unpaid), before retiring in 1960. From 1960 to 1969 the Taliaferros worked at Argonne National Laboratory, researching the effects of radiation on the immune system.

Taliaferro coauthored Radiation and Immune Mechanisms (1964) with William Taliaferro.

Lucy Graves Taliaferro died on December 22, 1984.
