Edgar Parin d'Aulaire was born in Switzerland in 1898; his wife Ingri was born in Norway in 1904. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1929, they began collaborating on children's picture books. Many of their early works focused on Norwegian folktales. They later shifted their attention to the United States, and produced books about American heroes such as Pochontas, Benjamin Franklin, and Buffalo Bill.
