Tennessee. Commission on Aging

The Tennessee Commission on Aging, created in 1963, collects facts and statistics related to conditions affecting the health and welfare of aging Tennesseans. In cooperation with local, state, and federal governments, the commission promotes the coordination of programs for the aging and makes recommendations for improvements. It also administers the "Older Americans Act of Tennessee."

Created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1963 to provide leadership on aging issues. Major responsibilities are to administer the Older Americans Act; to provide leadership to the Long-Term Care Planning Council; to work with the subgrantee districts which operate nursing homes, senior centers, and volunteer programs for older Tennesseans; and to manage state funds providing multipurpose senior center programs, public guardianship, homemaker services, and home-delivered meals.
