Frazee, Isaac Jenkinson,

Isaac Jenkinson Frazee was born in Winchester, Indiana in 1858. His family moved to California in 1873. Frazee worked various ranch jobs and took a trip to Yosemite which, following his marriage to Bettie Dickinson in 1885, inspired him to paint and write poetry. Frazee was also inspired by Indian culture and from 1915 into the mid-1920s produced a pageant play titled "Kitshi-Manido," performed in an amphitheatre next to the Frazee residence in Moosa, California. Frazee died in Laguna Beach on June 23, 1942.

John Steven McGroarty was born in Foster, PA on August 20, 1862, and came to California with his wife Ida shortly after 1900. McGroarty wrote poerty and history, and produced the Mission Play at the San Gabriel Mission for many years. Named Poet Laureate of California in 1933, McGroarty died in Los Angeles on August 8, 1944.

George Wharton James was born in Lincolnshire, England in 1858 and came to the United States in 1881, Following a stint as a Methodist minister he wrote books and articles, and lectured on the American Southwest, particularly on the Indians. He was also a noted explorer and photographer. James died in St. Helena, California, on November 8, 1923.

William Wendt was born in Germany on February 20, 1865, came to America in 1880, settled in California in 1902, and married Julia Bracken on June 26, 1906. A self-taught artist, he became one one of California's most renowned landscape painters, and eventually was President of the California Art Club. Wendt died in 1946.
