Rural America, Inc.

Hide Profile

Rural America was formed in 1970 as a nonprofit membership organization after the Rural Housing Alliance sought funds for a foundation that would go beyond housing and would also address such issues as rural health, transportation, and community development. The aim of the organization was to give people in rural areas and small towns a stronger voice in Washington, help people in rural areas to improve their social and economic position, and to run a technical assistance and support program in a variety of areas including housing, energy, land use, community development and community education. Rural America's principal goal was to assure rural people equity in the formulation and implementation of public policies and programs.
