The first seven conferences were held at the University of Rochester in New York beginning December 16, 1950, and were known as the Rochester Conference on High Energy Nuclear Physics. They continued to be held there at regular intervals through 1957. As the international character of the meetings increased they moved to cities such as Geneva (1958, 1962), Kiev (1959), Dubna (1964), and Vienna (1968), and became known as the International Conference on High Energy Physics. The last meeting was held in Madison, Wisconsin in 1980.
