Frances Wilson Peabody was born in 1903 in Portland, Me., graduated from Smith College and was active in Colonial Dames, Morse-Libby House, Greater Portland Landmarks, and other organizations; president of National Society of Colonial Dames of America in Maine from 1964-1968 and also chair of the Tate House, which is run by the Colonial Dames, for many years.

Frances Wilson Peabody b. in Washington, D.C., 1903 and raised in Santa Fe, N.M.; graduated from Smith College in 1925; moved with family to Portland, Me., in 1951 as result of relocation of her husband's business E.E. Taylor Shoe Company. In Portland, Peabody became active in local preservation efforts including involvement with the Victoria Mansion and the Colonial Dames, with a focus on the Stroudwater region of Portland and Tate House Museum; became founding member of Greater Portland Landmarks; also active on the board of the Portland Children's Home and with an AIDS hospice and other organizations; d. 2001.
