Hide Profile
Includes correspondence between Chris Philip and members of the Hanbury family (1974) regarding Hanbury's life and work. The principal information is cited from Through a city archway: the story of Allen and Hanburys, 1715-1954, by Desmond Chapman-Huston and Ernest C. Cripps: Hanbury was born in 1823, the son of Cornelius Hanbury I and his first wife Mary Allen; he played little part in the family firm; in 1861 he married Countess Maria, eldest daughter of Albert Count von der Recke Volmerstein, and settled in Germany, where Maria died in 1885; W.A. Hanbury died in Paris in 1898. Though the correspondents were aware of Hanbury's interest in fireworks, few details were known to them.
