Isaac Fontaine Hite is listed in the University of Virginia's alumni directory as being from Middletown, Frederick County, Va. He was born in 1807 and attended the University beginning in 1827.

John Patten Emmit, son on Thomas Addis Emmet, was born in Ireland, educated in New York, received his M.D. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, practised medicine in Charleston, S.C., and gave lectures on chemistry there before joining the faculty at the University of Virginia in 1824.
