The first worship service of Christ Lutheran Church was on February 1, 1976 at University Park Elementary School. We met in the gym and the weekly set-up and take-down became part of our fellowship. Our first Sunday School classes were held on March 21, 1976. It was an exciting time as each week brought new faces. On May 16, 1976, the congregational Charter opened for signatures. May 30th of that first year, we moved the services to Alaskaland for the summer. This was to become a tradition. We enjoyed meeting in the chapel there and fellowshipping afterward in the park during the summer months. Then each fall we moved back to the school for Sunday School and services. (If you’ve never carried church and Sunday school in and out at fifty degrees below zero, you haven’t lived!) December 5, 1976 was the formal organization of the congregation and we elected our first council. In August of 1977 we purchased the site for our church. After our building fund drive, the ground-breaking took place in July of 1979 and our first service was held in our “own” building on December 23, 1979. the official dedication took place on Jan. 13, 1980. With our new building we again experienced new faces and soon had 2 services. In November of 1983 we had another successful fund drive to expand our Fellowship Hall/Education Area. In the meantime, to accommodate our ever-growing Sunday School, we had a trailer moved on site and anxiously waited to break ground in the summer of 1984.
