Col. John Hacket (also found as John Hackett) moved to Middlebury, Vt., in 1806. He was a carpenter and worked on various buildings, including the Masonic Hall. He commanded a company of cavalry during the War of 1812. He moved to Hancock, Vt., between 1826-1828 and remained there for the rest of his life. He was appointed postmaster in 1828 and was involved with the Centre Turnpike Co.
