Edward Antony Benbrook, a native of New Jersey, received his D.V.M. (1914) from the University of Pennsylvania. He was employed as an assistant, instructor, and Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania (1914)and Oklahoma A & M (1915-1918). In 1918, he was hired by Iowa State College as an Associate Professor (1918) and in 1919, he was named Professor and Head of the Veterinary Pathology Department (1919-1957).
Benbrook continued his positions part-time at Iowa State through 1967. For his achievements, he was awarded the Clarence Hartley Covault Distinguished Professorship in Veterinary Medicine (1959) and was named Professor of the Year by the Cardinal Guilde (1961).
