White, Stephen, 1938-

Stephen White is a scholar, author, curator, collector, and former gallery owner of the Stephen White Gallery of Photography in Los Angeles. White is also a founding president of the Association of Independent Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD). As a gallery owner, White represented and exhibited artists just such as Lotte Jacobi, Michael Kenna, and Karl Struss as well as authored various publications to promote photography as fine art. In 1990, White sold his gallery and personal inventory to the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum, which formed the nucleus of the museum's collection. White would go on with collect and curate photography shows including The Photograph and the American Dream, 1840-1940, which opened in Amsterdam in 2001 and White would go on with collect and curate photography shows including The Photograph and the American Dream, 1840-1940, which opened in Amsterdam in 2001 and History of Photography for the Dali Photography Festival in China in 2012.
