Nicholas A. Renzetti and Gerald S. Levy both joined JPL in 1959, in different sections of the Communications Division. This division was reorganized into Telecommunications in November, 1959. Renzetti was section manager of Section 332 Communications Engineering and Operations, and Levy as a senior engineer in Section 333 then communications elements. In 1964, Renzetti was moved to the newly formed Tracking and Data Acquisition, then Division 240, but by 1966 transferred to 440, and later became directorate 400. In these early years, he managed TDA information for Ranger, Mariner and Surveyor. Levy became manager of section 333 in 1967 and kept that position through 1979 when he transferred to 420 the TDA Technology Department. Renzetti managed various TDA divisions including 430- TDA Engineering and 440 - Mission Support. In 1980, the Tracking and Data Acquisition directorate (400), was renamed the Telecommunications and Data Acquisition Office. In 1983 the TDA Science Office was formed with Renzetti as manager and Levy was transferred to the new division. In 1994, the TDA Technology Development (420) and the TDA Science Office (450) were merged into the TDA Technology and Science Office (420). Renzetti served as DSN science advisor from 1994 to his retirement in 1996.
