Sarah Edith Ives received her M.D. from the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1898. In 1914 S. Edith Ives Cogan set up private practice as an ophthalmologist in Wakefield, Mass. She was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology Examinations and was a member of the New England Ophthalmology Society and American Medical Association. Cogan retired by 1950 and died in Cambridge, Mass. on 26 April 1957.
