In 1967, Elton J. Bruins was appointed archivist of Western Theological Seminary. Bruins set up the archival collection during his summer vacations from teaching at Hope College. The Western Theological Seminary Archives remained under Bruins' direction until 1987, when it joined the archives of Hope College and the Holland Historical Trust to form the Joint Archives of Holland.
