Fred C. Matthews, Jr. moved to Baton Rouge with his father in 1920. He worked for Exxon for more than thirty years and was a Trustee of Magnolia Hope Baptist Church. Melvin Sambo, Sr. moved with his mother to Baton Rouge in 1935. He worked at the Baton Rouge Rice Mill, Exxon, the University of California Hospital in San Francisco, and in the construction business in Baton Rouge. He was a Deacon of Magnolia Hope Baptist Church.
