What became Peace United Church of Christ started as an informal house church. Members voted to become a church in 1985, signed a charter 1986, and incorporated 1989. The church was "committed to exploring the spiritual significance of social activism", and grounding "political and social beliefs in a faith base." It was "feminist, progressive, creative, and rooted in the Biblical tradition of liberation, wholeness, healing, and spiritual exploration." It welcomed "families, lesbians, gay men, single persons, people of all ages, feminist and politically progressive persons, everyone who seeks a supportive church community." The church dissolved in 1993.
