Williams served as district fieldman with the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (1940-1944); state supervisor for the Emergency Farm Labor Program (1944-1948); assistant to the director of the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service at Alabama Polytechnic Institute, later Auburn University, (1948-1960); and head of the Extension Service's Management Service Office (1960-1969).
