Riddick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. degree (1885) and received his C.E. degree from Lehigh University (1890). He received an honorary LL.D. from Wake Forest University and Lehigh University (1917), and a Doctor of Engineering from North Carolina State University (1939).
