Charles Sumner Dolley was a biologist, graduating with a doctorate of medicine from University of Pennsylvania (1882) and conducting post-graduate research at Johns Hopkins University (1883-1884), the University of Leipzig (1884), and the Zoological Station in Naples (1885). He taught at Swarthmore College (1885-1889) and at the University of Pennsylvania (1885-1892).
