James (Jamie) Austin Copland Mackie, emeritus professor at the Australian National University, first worked in Indonesia as an economist under the Colombo Plan, 1956-1958. Mackie held academic appointments at the University of Melbourne, Monash Centre of Southeast Asian Studies and in the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University.
