Political economist.
John Donaldson was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 9, 1892, and attended school at Charles and Mary, and later at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins.He served as an economist for the U.S. War Board, the U.S. Shipping Board, and the U.S. Department of State from 1918 to 1922. He served as a professor in political economy, international trade, and commerce at American University, Georgetown, George Washington University, and Columbian College from 1922-1947. From 1934-35 he served as Chairman of the Office of Special Advisors to the President on Foreign Trade. Donaldson was an active member of both Pi Kappa Phi and Delta Phi Epsilon, where he served as President of each organization on multiple occasions. Donaldson has published numerous articles and books on the subjects of international trade, economics, and commerce. He died on June 2, 1955 in his home in Avon Park, Florida.
