Mexican War soldier from De Witt County, Ill.; served with 4th Illinois Infantry, Co. E; died 21 Apr 1847 of wounds received at the Battle of Cerro Gordo.
Jackson enrolled in Co. E on 12 June 1846. Before he died, Jackson entrusted his diary & personal effects to Sgt. G.E. Bennett.
