Fowles, M. A.
Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, M.A. Fowles moved with her family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1845. Fowles, along with other family members, returned to South Carolina after the death of her father. During the 1880s Fowles was sent to Madison, Florida for her health. Fowles was the daughter of James Henry Fowles, an Episcopal minister and author who served a church in Beaufort, South Carolina before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1845 to become minister of the Church of the Epiphany.
