McHam, David
David McHam was born in South Carolina and was brought up in North Carolina. He received an associate of arts degree at Gardner-Webb College, a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. He also attended New York University.
David McHam has been teaching journalism at Texas colleges since 1961. He was at Baylor (1961-1974), Southern Methodist University (1974-1997), the University of Texas at Arlington (1998-2001) and since the fall of 2001 at the University of Houston.
McHam began his journalism career at the age of 17 at The Spartanburg Herald. He later worked for The Waco News-Tribune and The Houston Post. While teaching he also worked at The Waco News-Tribune, the Dallas Times Herald, the Associated Press and Parkway, a Dallas magazine.
