James Woodman, b. 24 June 1753, Buxton, Me.; d. 2 Feb. 1842, Buxton, Me.; son of Capt. Joseph Woodman (1715-1796); lifetime farmer; served in Capt. John Elden's Company of Col. Lemuel Robinson's regiment at the siege of Boston during the Revolutionary War; married Mary Hancock (b. 22 Jan. 1758; d. 6 Mar. 1838, Buxton, Me.); had eleven children; he became so crippled with rheumatism that he was forced to sell his eighty-acre farm to his sons, James and Elisha, in order to pay his debts; he applied for a Revolutionary War pension in 1829.
