On October 25, 1925, the Board of Directors of the Welfare League signed a contract with the Community Chest which formed the organization called Community Welfare Council and Community Chest, a forerunner to the Valley of the Sun United Way. Over the years the name changed several times from Phoenix Community Chest, to Community Way Chest, to United Red Feather and then to the United Fund, Inc. in 1956. Finally in 1970, a new name and a new logo were developed by the United Way of America and the name "United Way" was given to the national and locally affiliated organizations. The Phoenix-Scottsdale United Way merged in 1981 and the Valley of the Sun United Way name was adopted. Today, the Valley of the Sun United Way continues to serve the Phoenix area community with a wide variety of programs.
