Thomas George Bedford was born on 23 Oct. 1875 at Portsmouth, Hampshire, the son of Thomas Bedford of Benwell, Newcastle. He was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle, before entering Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, in 1894 (B.A., 1897; M.A., 1901). He was called to the Bar in 1911, but never practised. He was Cambridge University Demonstator in Experimental Physics, 1907-1926, and became University Lecturer in Physics in 1927.

George Frederick Charles Searle (1864-1954) was an experimental physicist.

A.L. Reimann, J.K. Roberts, C.F. Sharman, G. Stead, C.E. Wynn-Williams, and E.L. Yates carried our experimental work at the Cavendish Laboratory.
