Professor of psychology and sociology at the University of Michigan, one of the founders of Center for Research on the Utilization of Scientific Knowledge.

Through his writings, workshops, and consultation work, Lippitt was advocate for use of behavioral science to improve the quality of service and productivity within organizations. Lippitt wrote on such topics as group dynamics, futuring, processes of learning, socialization and growth of children and youth, among others.
