The American Dairy Science Association was founded on 17 July 1906 as the National Association of Dairy Instructors and Investigators in Urbana, Illinois, with nineteen charter members. In 1908, the organization's name was changed to the Official Dairy Instructor's Association. The next name change was made in 1916 to the American Dairy Science Association. The Student Affiliate Division of the American Dairy Science Association consists of Student Affiliate chapters across the country. The chapters are local clubs organized at colleges and universities offering courses that pertain to the production of dairy cattle and dairy foods.
